THE
LATEST ROD BODS DOWNUNDER PROJECT
CONCEPT: To
build a 1932 Old School Roadster set back in the mid 1940’s
“The
Good Ole Dayz”
![]()
DAY
1 – Thursday
Dismantled
my 1932 chassis, as well as diff bells, torque tube, radius rods, front and
rear springs, front axle, front wishbone for sandblasting.
Placed
several orders for quite a few of the components needed in this build that I
had not collected over time or have on the shelf readily available.

DAY
2 – Friday
Delivered
parts to Manning Sandblasters in Taree first thing this morning, then picked
all goods up freshly sandblasted that same afternoon
![]()
DAY
3 – Saturday
Set
all sandblasted parts up in spray booth and after thoroughly prep soling parts
they were then all given a good epoxy primer coat.

Dismantled
a 1939 gear box that I have had sitting around for a while and thought to be in
good condition only to find when I was dismantling the gears to put a new front
and rear bearing in the cluster gear was missing a few teeth.
This
put a stop on my quick rebuild!
Requested
“Purse strings to be opened” and onto the Macs Auto Parts website I went to
place another order.
At
this point I would like to mention Macs Auto Parts www.macsautoparts.com
is a great sight for anyone looking for parts to recondition original
early Ford components.

DAY
4 – Sunday
Spent
a couple of hours this morning on the gearbox again, thoroughly cleaning in the
parts washer.
The gearbox is now ready waiting for the
cluster gears etc. to arrive.

DAY
5 – Monday
In
between jobs and at the end of the day I was able to put the chassis into my
1932 Chassis Jig.

Rivets
that I had pre-ordered arrived this morning along with some of the parts from
Macs Auto.
I
made tooling so that I could rivet the Chassis back together.
After
several tests with samples held in the vice, I began to master the
craftsmanship of riveting. I can’t tell you how many chassis’ over the years I
have separated removing rivets but this is the first time I have ever riveted a
chassis back together instead of welding.
By
the end of the day I had three (3) rivets in my chassis

Also
today the diff centre was pulled apart, gears where checked and the diff centre
was then reassembled using new bearings.
New
Bushes where pressed into brake and clutch pedals.
